Situation

According to intelligence sources, an attack with SCUD Launchers on Kutaisi is imminent. We don't have the time to prevent this attack.

A second attack is being prepared at the Military Outpost north of Tianeti. According to satellite images, 18 SCUD rocket launchers are currently being rearmed for an attack. We expect operational readiness in 2-4 hours.

There is a very well-developed network of radar and SAM sites between us and the target zone. In your mission documents you will find GPS coordinates of the targets. Be careful. The SA-10 positions are partially secured by SA-6, AAAs and IR manpads. Our first goal is to completely destroy the SA-10 system and the radar coverage in the area. After that F14 and F15 from Senaki-Kolkhi will provide CAP for a Strike on the FARP.

Allied troops have reached the City of Sioni. They fear an artillery attack from the North (SW of the FARP). If possible, support our allies. However, priority are the SCUD launchers.

Objectives

Primary Objective 1 (SEAD): Cripple the SA-10, destroy the radar coverage in the area.
Primary Objective 2 (A / G): Destroy the SCUD launchers before they can fire.

Secondary Objective: Support friendly Troups in Sioni

Under no circumstances may the border to Russia be violated. Avoid any conflict with Russian troops.

SA-10

The SA-10 Grumble is representing and extremely high threat to all aircraft operating within its MEZ. The system has both a long range and is able to effectively engage low flying aircraft down to very low level, only lack of line of sight due to terrain masking is effective in preventing low level engagements. The fast acquisition time of the system also means that aircraft employing pop-up tactics will find themselves being engaged shortly after unmasking.
The SA-10 also has excellent chaff rejection (>90%) meaning that once fired upon, evading incoming missiles is very challenging and may be impossible for aircraft flying at low energy states. The SA-10 system can engage 6 separate targets and support 12 missiles simultaneously.

SA-6

The SA-6 has comparatively good capability vs a low-level aircraft with a minimum engagement altitude of approximately 100 feet AGL, however the SA-6 has a chaff rejection rate in the region of 50% which makes it only a moderate threat to low level aircraft. A combination of terrain masking and swift reaction to any RWR indication will in most cases prevent the system engaging.
At medium level the SA-6 presents a greater threat especially for aircraft with limited energy. The typical launch range of the system combined advance warning of pending engagement provided by early TTR lock-on should be sufficient to allow successful evasion. Should a missile be fired a long salvo chaff dispensing program with a .5 – 1 sec burst delay should be sufficient to decoy any incoming missiles.
The SA-6 will engage only a single target however will fire a salvo of two missiles per engagement with up to a 5 second delay between each. The high smoke motor and large size of the missile aids in visual acquisition, especially at medium altitudes and further enhances evasion probability.

Carrier Departure

"In Case I launches, immediately after becoming airborne, aircraft raise their landing gear and perform "clearing turn" to the right off the bow and to the left off the waist catapults. This roughly turn is made to increase separation of (nearly) simultaneously launched aircraft from the waist/bow catapults. When clearing turns are called for, they are governed by the ship’s policy. After the clearing turn, aircraft proceed straight ahead paralleling the ship's course at 500 feet until 7 nautical miles. Aircraft are then cleared to climb unrestricted in visual conditions."

Ships policy Theodore roosevelt: 15° Bank for 20° Heading Change, hold for 1-2 sec, back 20° to Carrier Course when reached.
